Windows Small Business Server (Windows SBS) Update Services is not running because it automatically turns off if you customize Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)

What:

Windows SBS 2008 or 2011

Problem:

When you go to Windows SBS Console > Security > Updates and click on "Change the software update settings" you get a following message:

Windows Small Business Server (Windows SBS) Update Services is not running because it automatically turns off if you customize Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)...

Solution:

The reason why you are getting that message is that you have changed some settings in Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).

Open up  Server Manager, navigate to WSUS > Update Services > Options
Click on "Products and Classifications"

Make sure that All Products are ticked.

Now if you go back to SBS console you should be able to access settings.
