Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the required video codec (G2M4) is not installed

What:

Windows Media Player on Windows 7

Problem:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the required video codec is not installed on your computer.
File extension .wmv

Solution:

Download and install G2M4 codec.

    excellent! it worked for me in windows media player how ever I am seeing the same problem in vlc media player. Is there any fix for this?
